摘要:The time profile of total proteins and albumin in line with two amino acids, Phe and Glu, are of great importance due to their indicative value of the healing and/or deterioration of burn wounds. In this experiment, rats exposed to scalding that produced a second-degree burn were divided into four groups: control, placebo, MEBO ointment, and copper (I) nicotinate complex ointment (an antioxidant anti-inflammatory) for four weeks. The three treatments showed noticeable similarities in the Phe profiles, with a slight drop 24 hours post burn, a peak elevation by the second week, and a slight, insignificant decline by the third week, with the placebo group showing highest values over normal (P< 0.05). In the Glu profile, large differences were observed: two set profiles, one representing MEBO and copper (I) nicotinate showed one peak in the second week, and the other representing placebo showed two peaks in the first and third weeks. Albumin and total protein time profiles showed the same trend throughout the whole experiment, and are in line with a reformed metabolic state parallel to wound closure. These results reveal that MEBO and copper nicotinate have comparable effects on wound healing in scald burns, and that plasma Glu profile is a better systemic indicator reflecting the regularity and steadiness of the healing process in MEBO and copper complex treatment.

摘要:Objective: Hard-to-heal wounds are a global health challenge, and effective treatments are still lacking. Moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO) and maggots are traditional treatments for promoting wound healing. This study was a preliminary exploration of combined maggot therapy and MEBO in the treatment of hard-to-heal wounds.Method: A coexistence experiment was conducted to determine the survival rates of maggots in MEBO. The maggots were placed in two different existence conditions: one set in MEBO (MEBO group), and another set as the control group (no MEBO) to compare survival rates. Case reports describe the use of the combined application of MEBO and maggots in the treatment of patients with hard-to-heal wounds. Results: The coexistence experiment indicated that maggots in the MEBO group had a higher survival rate. From the therapeutic effect of the clinical cases (n=7), the combined application was safe and effective, with all the reported wounds eventually healing. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, we believe the combined application of MEBO and maggots is a promising way of promoting wound healing. Further studies and clinical trials are needed to elucidate the mechanism of the combined application in promoting wound healing and to more persuasively clarify the therapeutic effect.

Connealy, Leigh E.; Settineri, Robert; Causey, Ariel; Athanas, Ashley; McCall-Smith, Kathleen; Clark, Jason; McLaren, Christine E.; Nicolson, Garth L. 摘要:Background: Different treatments have been developed and used to control symptoms and improve quality of life in patients with digestive diseases and disorders. Although the use of drugs or alternative approaches has improved symptom severity in some but not all patients, often these improvements were not sustainable. Objectives: An open label clinical study was initiated to determine if oral capsules containing a dietary supplement of herbs and oils (GI RegenerateTM) could reduce self-reported gastrointestinal symptoms and improve quality of life (QOL) indicators in patients with gastrointestinal conditions. Methods: Participants included 50 patients (40 females and 10 males) of mean age of 51.1 ± 12.7 years (range, 24 - 77 years) with a diagnosis of a gastrointestinal disorder or gastrointestinal symptoms. These patients consumed five soft-gels containing the test supplement 30 minutes before each meal for 90 days. Symptoms were evaluated by medical staff, and patient health status was self-reported using a validated quality of life questionnaire (Quality of Life Digestive Survey) designed for functional digestive disorders. Exit interviews (Patient Global Impression of Change, PGIC) were conducted by the medical staff. Results: Participants in the study responded with improved symptom severities and QOL scores to the test dietary supplement within the 90 day period; most improvements occurred within 20 days on the test dietary supplement. By the end of the study there were significant overall global improvements in the symptoms and QOL health surveys (p = 0.0183), with significant improvements in symptom discomfort (p = 0.0004), daily activities (p = 0.029) and anxiety (p = 0.018). In contrast, there were insignificant improvements in diet (p = 0.398), sleep (p = 0.136), health perception (p = 0.686), coping with the disease (p = 0.309) and impact of stress (p = 0.785). Using the PGIC exit interview that measured each patient’s impression of overall global change in symptoms and QOL these data also indicated overall significant improvements in symptoms and in satisfaction with the test supplement (moderately better improvements in symptoms and QOL or score of 4.8 ± 0.169, p 50 years) versus younger (TM natural dietary supplement safely and significantly reduced gastrointestinal symptoms and improved quality of life in subjects with a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders and symptoms.

摘要:Objective To introduce a new method of treating facial soft tissue defect by observing the clinical curative effects of traditional Chinese medicine moisture exposed burn ointment in treating facial soft tissue defect. Methods A total of 85 patients with facial soft tissue defects were treated with traditional Chinese medicine moisture exposed burn ointment, and the clinical therapeutic effects were analyzed by observing the wound healing time, scar formation and changes of facial appearance and functions. Results Of the 85 patients, the shortest wound healing time was 12 days and the longest was 72 days; the facial appearance and functions restored to be normal in 74 patients, with good skin elasticity and mild scar formation in the wound area; 11 patients were lost to the follow-up; two patients suffered from the longest wound healing time due to their skin defect of nasal tip and nasal columella and the cartilage defect of nasal wings, and V-shaped defects were left at the edge of the left nostrils after the wound healing, which may be attributed to the ineffectiveness of MEBT/MEBO on cartilage. Conclusion Traditional Chinese medicine moisture exposed burn ointment can realize more satisfying healing effects when applied in the treatment of facial soft tissue defects, including user-friendly operation, no special requirements for medical devices, obviously lower treatment cost, etc., and thus it is an easy-to-operate and effective way for such patients, especially for elderly patients, patients with poor body conditions and patients unbearable to undergo complicated operations.
