Introduction The objective of this study was to investigate the clinical effects of laser therapy in treating cicatricial ectropion. Methods Seven patients with cicatricial ectropion were entered into this clinical study. The ectropions were pretreated with the 595-nm pulsed dye laser if the scar color was red. If there was no red, the UltraPulse fractional CO2 laser was used and parameters were adapted according to the height of scar. MEBT/MEBO was used after laser treatment for wound healing. The degree of ectropion was measured for changes before and after treatment, and the scars were evaluated for changes in melanin, height, vascularity, and pliability using the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS) before and after treatment. Results All seven patients with cicatricial ectropion entered into this protocol were completely corrected after 1-2 treatment sessions. The total VSS score, as well as the score for melanin and pliability in 7 patients, showed a decrease following the treatments, and this was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The scores for height and vascularity showed a decrease following the treatments, but there was no significant difference by statistical analysis (P ≥ 0.05). There were no adverse reactions reported. Conclusions The treatment of cicatricial ectropion with laser therapy can not only correct the ectropion, but also improve the scars in the treatment area. Compared with the traditional repair of cicatricial ectropion, the use of fractional CO2 laser provides surgical precision and the advantage of a timely treatment without the need to wait for the scar to stabilize.
摘要:This meta-analysis aimed to assess the effectiveness of moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO) for diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). Two researchers independently assessed the quality and validity of included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in 7 electronic databases. Risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane handbook guidelines. Twenty seven trials which include 1,979 patients were involved for analysis. Comparison of the same intervention strategies revealed significant differences in total effectiveness rates between BEBO and conventional therapy group (Risk Ratio [RR], 6.36, [95% confidence interval (CI), 3.20, 12.64], P < 0.00001); MEBO combined with standard therapy (Risk Ratio [RR], 1.19, [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.08, 1.31], P = 0.0007); and healing time of DFU (Mean Difference [MD], 14.15, [95% confidence interval (CI), -18.14, -10.17], P < 0.00001). MEBO may be effective for treating DFU. However, a firm conclusion could not be reached because of the poor quality of the included trials. Further trials with higher quality are justified. Key words: Exposed wound ointment (MEBO), diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), recombinant bovine, basic fibroblast growth factor (rb-bFGF), vacuum sealing drainage (VSD).
摘要:Following traumatic or surgical injury to the skin, wounds do not heal by tissue regeneration but rather by scar formation. Though healing is definitely a welcomed event, the resultant scar, very often, is not aesthetically pleasing, and not infrequently, may be pathologic causing serious deformities and contractures. Management of problematic scars continues to be a frustrating endeavor with less than optimal results. Prophylactic methods of wound management to minimize serious scarring are being developed. In a previously published study, we have demonstrated improved healing of split thickness skin graft donor sites following treatment with Moist Exposed Burn Ointment (MEBO, Julphar Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries, Ras Al-Khaimah, UAE). At present, we are reporting the results of a comparative clinical prospective study evaluating scar quality following primary healing of elective surgical and traumatic facial wounds with prophylactic MEBO application, topical antibiotic ointment application, and no topical therapy at all. Scars were evaluated according to the Visual Analogue Scale for scar assessment. Statistical analysis of scar assessment scores demonstrated marked prevention of unfavorable scars with improved cosmetic results following MEBO prophylactic therapy.
