摘要:Introduction The purpose of this manuscript is to investigate the treatment of skin soft tissue embolization or vascular occlusion after the injection of hyaluronic acid (HA) for Injection Rhinoplasty (IR) in Asians with a special interest in the time occurrence of the occlusion. Methods A total of 35 cases were evaluated after receiving HA injections for IR who presented with a vascular occlusive event. They were divided into three stages based on the time to embolization. Immediate, ≤5 hours; early, ≤3 days; and late, >3 days. There were two cases of immediate, 28 deemed early, and five late. Methods to prevent tissue necrosis are reviewed in the manuscript based on these stages. Results Skin color gradually recovered to normal after 11 treatments in 11 patients with mild embolization. No ischemic aggravation or skin necrosis was observed in 19 patients with moderate embolization; red scarring was seen in two and hypertrophic scar with uneven skin color in one patient. The five patients in the severe category had longer healing, more red scars, and more hypertrophic scarring. Conclusion The treatment of skin soft tissue embolization or vascular occlusion after HA IR in Asians can be effected by identifying the stage and degree of embolization and treating appropriately with the outlines presented in this manuscript.

Ahmed, Nehad J.; Almutairi, Ahmed H.; Alotaibi, Faris A.; Menshawy, Menshawy A. Clinical Pharmacy Department, College of Pharmacy, Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University, Alkharj, Saudi Arabia; Specialized Clinics for Security Forces, Hafar Al Batin, Saudi Arabia; Specialized Clinics for Security Forces, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Department of Medicinal Chemistry, College of Pharmacy, Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University, Alkharj, Saudi Arabia Journal of Pharmaceutical Research International 2021

摘要:Methodology: This is a retrospective study that includes reviewing the electronic prescriptions that included MEBO among the patients who received medications from the outpatient department in a public hospital in Alkharj. Results: More than 61% of the patients who received MEBO ointment were female patients and about 61.98% of them received MEBO ointment for 1 week. Most of the prescribers were residents (76.86%). More than 46% of the prescriptions were prescribed by emergency department, about 24% were prescribed by plastic surgery department. Conclusion: The use of MEBO ointment in the outpatient setting in Alkharj was uncommon. Further studies are needed to explore the pattern of using burn treating ointments such as MEBO ointment in the outpatient setting and in other settings.

摘要:Objectives: To examine the pattern, nature, and attitude towards herbal medicines usage in the UAE. Methods: A cross-sectional national questionnaire was distributed over five weeks in 7 emirates of UAE: The questioner was constructed using an online platform and delivered randomly to 448 adults in the UAE. The data collection technique adopted for this study was a convenient sampling. SPSS version 24 was used for statistical analysis. Results: Among participants, 98.7% used herbal medicines (HMs), and respondents who aged between 18 and 24 years were more likely to use HMs. Participant were mainly female (70.3%), with fair health status (55%), and participant with chronic disease were significantly less likely to use HM (10.9%). The majority of herbal medicine users believed herbal medicine were harmless, because they were derivatives of natural products. The findings of this study reported that many participants use HMs to enhance immunity (26.8%), and for relaxation (23.5%). Conclusion: Despites the risk of adverse-effects, many participants in this study are regular users for HMs and have perception that 89 may cure or prevent COVID-19. Therefore, awareness-raising campaigns that target HM users are essential to mitigate any unwanted consequences.

The effect of moist and moist exposed dressings on healing and barrier function restoration of partial thickness wounds
Atiyeh, BS; Al-Amm, CA; El-Musa, KA; Sawwaf, A; Dham, R Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon; Drug Research Center, Dubai, UAE European Journal of Plastic Surgery 2003

摘要:Improved healing of full- and partial-thickness cutaneous wounds in wet and moist environments is due primarily to retention of biological fluids over the wound preventing desiccation of denuded dermis or deeper tissues. This also allows faster and unimpeded migration of keratinocytes over the wound surface and enables the naturally occurring cytokines and growth factors to exert their beneficial effect on wound contracture and reepithelialization. Despite all these documented benefits creating and maintaining a sealed moist environment over large surface areas such as large skin graft donor sites or extensive burns is technically difficult if not impossible. The preliminary investigation carried out between 1999 and 2000 studied the healing of a split-thickness skin graft (STSG) following application of moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO). This compound provides a moist environment without the need of an overlying occlusive dressing, and compares favorably with Sofra-Tulle semi-open dressing. Healing of STSG donor sites was then evaluated from January to September 2001 in a prospective study comparing the effect of Tegaderm, a semipermeable membrane occlusive dressing, and MEBO, two different types of moist dressings. Wound healing was evaluated by measuring transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and scar quality was assessed by two independent observers using a visual analogue scale. Faster healing was observed clinically with MEBO application. Physiological healing as determined by TEWL measurements occurred at an extremely significant earlier stage for MEBO, and this was associated with better scar quality demonstrating a positive relationship between function and cosmetic appearance. Moreover, simple ointment application was definitely more practical than application of the occlusive self-adhesive membrane.
