摘要:Background: Despite the availability of many topical formulations for scar treatment, an objective evaluation of their effectiveness is lacking. Objective: To assess the physiological, structural, and mechanical parameters of scar healing by a scar ointment (MEBO-Scar). Methods: 45 patients from the Department of Obstetrics at Al Ain Hospital, UAE, with recently acquired Pfannenstiel scars were recruited into this prospective, open-label, controlled study. Scar ointment was applied to a lateral third of the scar; positive control (silicone gel based topical) to the other lateral third; the middle third was left untreated (negative control). The scars were evaluated at 4 time points up to 12 weeks using non-invasive devices and a scar questionnaire. Results: In comparison with silicone gel, there was a significant reduction in trans epithelial water loss at weeks 2, 4, 8, and 12 (p<0.001) and scar area at weeks 4, 8 and 12 (p<0.001) with scar ointment. The skin elasticity at week 4 was significantly increased by scar ointment (p=0.007). By week 12, gross colour mismatch of the scar was described by 9% patients with scar ointment (24% with silicone gel, 42% with no treatment; p<0.001). There was a significant improvement in scar texture with scar ointment by week 12 (p<0.001). Conclusion: Scar ointment has beneficial effects on objective and subjective patient-reported parameters of Pfannenstiel scars.

Effectiveness of topically applied MEBO in healing of traumatic oral ulcer: Randomized controlled trial
AlAraby, Amany Ahmed; Hassabou, Nadia Fathy; Shehab Eldin, Wessam Ibrahim Oral Medicine, Periodontology and Oral Radiology, Faculty of Dentistry, October 6 University, Giza, Egypt; Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Faculty of Dentistry, October 6 University, Giza, Egypt Journal of Tissue Viability 2025

摘要:Background MEBO is an analgesic and antibacterial natural agent. Sesame oil extract plays a positive effect in wound healing that may be attributed to its ability to scavenge free radicals and antioxidant properties. Material and methods In this study, MEBO was topically applied to the site of a traumatic oral ulcer to examine its therapeutic effect on pain relief and wound healing. Patients were randomly assigned into two equal groups: group I (MEBO), group II (control), (n?=?15 patients each). Pain was recorded by using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), wound size was measured at days 2, 5, and 10. Cytological analysis was also performed using the superficial epithelial cell and keratinization indices. Results There was a statistically significant difference in VAS scores and wound size between MEBO group and control group (p?≤?0.001). Cytological results of MEBO group showed a highly significant improvement (p?≤?0.00001) in re-epithelization and keratinization indices over time. Conclusion Our results showed that the application of MEBO on traumatic ulcer sites has a significant improvement in wound healing and rapid enhancing effect on the re-epithelialization rate.

摘要:The presence of necrotic tissue is one of the major problems that affect healing of burn wounds. The present study was designed to find the effectiveness of collagenase versus moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO) on removal of necrotic tissue of burns. Twenty mice randomly assigned and divided into four groups. For Group 1, burn wounds were treated with collagenase ointment only, Group 2 burn wounds were treated with MEBO, Group 3 burn wounds were treated with white vaseline alone, and Group 4 burn wounds were considered as control and left without treatment. In each group, the time of treatment was considered. The results indicated that the removal time of necrotic tissue and healing process was better in the case of using collagenase than using MEBO for treatment of burns.

Cutaneous Chemical Burns Associated With Chlorhexidine-Alcohol Solution in an Extremely Preterm Infant
Zhen, Lee Shi; Poh, Khoo Ngeh Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department, Hospital Melaka, Jalan Mufti Haji Khalil, Malaysia Journal of Neonatology 2020

摘要:Safe cutaneous antisepsis in neonatal intensive care unit is imperative. Chlorhexidine-based solution is commonly used for skin preparation prior to the placement of intravascular devices. However, in premature infants, its usage has not been standardized. We present a case of chemical burns secondary to the use of chlorhexidine-alcohol skin preparation solution in an extremely low birth weight infant.
