摘要:Background and Aim: Natural topical products have been used to enhance wound healing, especially in immunocompromised animals. The aims of this study were to evaluate and to compare the effects of moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO) and honey on the healing of full-thickness skin wounds in immunocompromised dogs. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted using 12 adults, apparently healthy mongrel dogs. Immunosuppression was induced in six dogs by oral administration of prednisone (2 mg/kg) and azathioprine (2 mg/kg), once a day for 21 days. On each dog, a total of 9, 1.5 cm in diameter full-thickness skin circular wounds were created aseptically in the thoracolumbar area under general anesthesia using customized skin punch biopsy kit. In a random fashion, three wounds in each dog were treatment using MEBO (contains b-sitosterol, baicalin, and berberine as active ingredients in a base of beeswax and sesame oil), honey or no treatment (control), once per day for 21 days. Wounds were grossly evaluated once a day for signs of inflammation or infection. In addition, biopsy specimens and digital imaging data of each wound were obtained on days 7, 14, and 21 for histopathological evaluation of the healing process. Results: Wounds in immunocompromised dogs appeared to heal significantly in a slower fashion than in non-immunocompromised counterparts. Digital analysis data showed that MEBO-treated wounds expressed better epithelialization area, faster contraction, and smaller wound area percentage when compared with honey-treated wounds. Histopathological analysis showed significantly higher angiogenesis scores in MEBO-treated wounds when compared with other treatments. Conclusion: Results of this study showed that MEBO resulted in significant enhancement of wound healing in both healthy and immunocompromised dogs. However, when compared to honey, the wound healing effect of MEBO was superior to that of honey.

The signaling pathways of traditional Chinese medicine in promoting diabetic wound healing
Zhou, Xin; Guo, Yanling; Yang, Kun; Liu, Peng; Wang, Jun First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, National Clinical Research Center for Chinese Medicine Acupuncture Moxibustion, No.88 Changling Road, Xiqing District, Tianjin, 300193, China; Graduate School of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tianjin, 301617, China Journal of Ethnopharmacology 2022

摘要:Ethnopharmacological relevance The diabetic wound is one of the common chronic complications of diabetes, which seriously affects patients’ quality of life and even causes disability and death. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a unique and precious resource in China, which has a good curative effect and safety. At present, it has been found that Chinese herbal compounds and effective active ingredients can effectively promote diabetic wound healing, and its mechanism needs to be further studied. Signaling pathways are involved in the pathogenesis and progression of diabetic wounds, which is one of the main targets for the pathologic mechanism of diabetic wounds and the pharmacological research of therapeutic drugs. Aim of the review This study has been carried out to reveal the classical signaling pathways and potential targets by the action of TCM on diabetic wound healing and provides evidence for its clinical efficacy. Materials and methods “diabetic wound”, “diabetic foot ulcer”, “traditional Chinese medicine”, “natural plant” and “medicinal plant”, were selected as the main keywords, and various online search engines, such as PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI and other publication resources, were used for searching literature. Results The results showed that TCM could regulate the signaling pathways to promote diabetic wound healing, such as Wnt, Nrf2/ARE, MAPK, PI3K/Akt, NF-κB, Notch, TGF-β/Smad, HIF-1α/VEGF, which maintaining inflammatory interaction balance, inhibiting oxidative stress and regulating abnormal glucose metabolism. Conclusion The effect of TCM on diabetic wound healing was reflected in multiple levels and multiple pathways. It is envisaged to carry out further research from precision-targeted therapy, provide ideas for screening the core target of TCM in treating diabetic wounds and create modern innovative drugs based on this target.

The Mechanism of Burn Regenerative Therapy and Wound Healing
XU Rong-xiang, XIAO Mo(China National Science and Technology Center for Burns 中国烧伤创疡杂志 2003

摘要:Objective: From molecular, cell and systemic clinical treatment three levels, this report revealed the mechanism of wound healing, the basic theory and the importance of clinical practice for the Burn Regenerative Therapy with MEBT/MEBO (BRT & MEBT/MEBO).Method: This report analyzed the importance and clinical curative effect for standardized appliance of BRT & MEBT/MEBO from two key points: 1) Liquefaction of necrotic tissue from burn wound; 2) Skin regenerationin situ. Result: There are three necessary conditions for skin physiologically repair and regeneration of burn wound: 1) The formation of moist physiological environment on burn wound; 2) The material foundation of life regenerative substances and histology for keratin-19 stem cells' regenerationin situ; 3) Standardized procedures and appliance of BRT & MEBT/MEBO, which is the guarantee of burn wound healing physiologically. Conclusion: The theory of “Potential Regenerative Cell" and the technique of “Stem cellin situregeneration" are ...

The effect of vitamin K on the wound healing process in rat skin achieved by common wound dressing agents
Osman, Shokhan; Amin, Zahra Abdulqader Department of Pharmacognosy, College of Pharmacy, Hawler Medical University, Erbil, Iraq Zanco Journal of Medical Sciences (Zanco J Med Sci) 2020

摘要:Background and objective: Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays an important role in the coagulation pathways of living organisms. A popular application of vitamin K has been used to help in the extravascular removal of blood from the skin. The aim of the present study was to test the wound healing effect of vitamin K and some common wound dressing agents available in Erbil city clinical settings such; the moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO) and the Cica silver spray to test their combination with vitamin K injections. Methods: Six groups of albino rats were used (6 rats in each group). Group M received Mebo ointment, Group Creceived Cica silver spray, Group K received Vitamin K injection, Group MK received Mebo ointment+vitamin K injection.Group CK received Cica silver spray +vitamin K Group, and Group N received no- treatment. The duration of the experiments was as 7, 14, and 21 days post wound surgery. The percentage of wound contraction was measured, and the blood serum was collected to test the level of transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). Results: Data presented in our study showed that the best wound contraction percentage(99%) was obtained by the MK treated rats compared to the control group. Similar results were obtained fromTGFβ and PDGF data in which MK group showed a significant increase in the levels of these growth factors. Conclusion: The wound healing process is supposed to be due to an increase of TGFβ, PDGF, and enhanced fibroblast proliferation and neovascularization of tissues.
